IONA DOREEN McKINNON

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Iona – mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Iona passed away peacefully in Sechelt Hospital on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the age of 95. Iona was born to Hazel and David Secord in and grew up in Manitoba with her three siblings. She went on to nursing college Dauphin and became a Registered Nurse. She moved to Vancouver and worked at St. Paul’s Hospital. She met Art in Vancouver where they married and then moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1956 where they raised their family of three boys and three girls at the home they built on Veterans Road. Iona will be remembered for her ever present pot of coffee on the stove, the smell of fresh baked bread in the house and her hospitality and kindness for all those who visited. Iona was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Art, and their son Peter. She is survived by her sons William (Marina) and Michael, and daughters Rebecca (William), Rachel (Bruce) and Kirsti (Michael) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the food bank.
