On September 1, 2017 at Sechelt, British Columbia. Jim was predeceased by his father Gilson in 1969, his mother Ada in 1992 and his brother Richard in 2000. Jim graduated from U.B.C. in electrical engineering in 1961 and worked as a communications engineer in Montreal until entering U.B.C. medical school in 1964, graduating in 1968. He completed his internship in Victoria at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in 1969 and joined the medical staff at St. Paul's Hospital in 1973, where he remained as Head of Biomedical Engineering until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of both the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. Jim enjoyed collecting and restoring self-playing musical instruments and this was a major avocational interest for over 30 years. He belonged to the Musical Box Society International and the Automatic Musical Instrument Collectors Association, hosting a number of meetings at his home. Special thanks to Dr. McDowell and the nurses at Sechelt Hospital for providing care. There will be a gathering of friends at Pebbles Restaurant on Monday, September 18 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, Jim asked that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of British Columbia and Yukon.
