Murray quietly slipped into the presence of his Lord and Saviour on December 12, 2017 at Gibsons B.C., surrounded by his family and close friends. He was the youngest son of Isaac & Agnes (predeceased) and grew up in St. Jacobs, Ontario. In his late teens, he meshed his two main passions, cars and singing. Earning his Class A Auto Mechanics License he began Murray's Auto Service in 1976, and in his free time he sang gospel music in a group known as the Spokesman Trio. Following a call to mission service in 1983, moved with wife Beth and their two children to Saskatchewan to attend Briercrest Bible College and then to McAllen Texas at Rio Grande Bible Institute for Spanish studies. Murray and Beth spent 21 years working with FEB International (Fellowship Baptist Churches of Canada - Missions) in both Colombia South America, and in Western Canada. In 2007, they joined Baptist Housing Ministries, (Shannon Oaks Seniors Residence - Vancouver) and had the joy of working with and loving seniors, ultimately retiring in 2015 to their cottage in Gibsons, BC on the Sunshine Coast. But the measure of a man cannot be expressed in accomplishments but in ones character. Murray was authentic, honest, loving, funny, fun to be with, a people person, caring, thoughtful and connected. He loved to share his knowledge of many subjects and teach others what he knew. He loved photography, singing, playing the keyboard and bass guitar, driving his S2000, gospel music, exotic cars, boating, fishing, technology and working with his hands but he especially enjoyed these things when it involved other people. Murray has left a beautiful legacy of joy, love, faith, hope and perseverance to his wife and best friend of 45 years, Beth (Moyer), son Jonathan, daughter Holly (Nathan) Robinson and their five wonderful grandchildren, Jayden, Anna, Simon, Viviana and Nico. He is survived by brothers, Wilfred (Sharon), and Richard (Susan) of Waterloo. He is lovingly remembered by his four sisters-in-law Julie Moyer of Waterloo, Patricia (John) Reesor of Peterborough, Jeanette (John) McNeill, Terri (Eric) Schulz and his mother-in-law June Moyer all of Toronto and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Murray's life will be held on Saturday, January 13 at 1:30 pm at the Christian Life Assembly Church at 730 School Road, Gibsons, B.C. The family wishes to thank all their friends at Christ The King Church for their love, care and support throughout Murray's ALS illness along with the nurses, care aides, Dr. Reznick, ALS Clinic and The ALS Society. Special thanks also to friends and family from Maple Ridge BC., and Ontario who found many innovative ways to brighten Murray's days. As expressions of sympathy and in honour of Murray, an act of kindness given in the name of Jesus would be appreciated. Print | View Guest Book |
