Maria Eugenia (Carega) Arduin

The family of Maria Arduin is deeply saddened to announce her peaceful passing at her home, while surrounded by family, on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the age of 87 years. Maria is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Carlo Arduin, her son Maurizio and daughter-in-law Luba, her daughter Aileen and son-in-law Jerome Waslen, granddaughter Carla Budd and her husband Jeremy, grandson David, and great-grandchildren Isaiah and Ana Budd. Maria married the love of her life, Carlo, on February 11, 1956. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 where they settled in Calgary, Alberta. Maria and Carlo were active members of the Calgary Italian Club, where she enjoyed playing Bocce, and Saturday evening dances. Most weekends were spent camping and fishing in Banff with many of their friends’ families. Maria and Carlo’s love of the outdoors led to their moving to the Sunshine Coast where they permanently settled in Halfmoon Bay in 1987. Maria was an avid reader, great conversationalist, gardener, and amazing cook. Her devotion to her faith, family and friends was evident to all who knew her. Her generosity of spirit touched many lives. There was always an open door to her home, and seldom could one leave without enjoying her famous pasta. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Jack Bryson, Dr. Sara Wadge, Vancouver Coastal Health nurses and care aides for their constant support and for taking such great care of Maria. The family is also very thankful and appreciative to all for their prayers, love and support during this difficult time. We have lost a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Maria will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, in Maria’s name. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 11th at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5700 Nickerson Road, Sechelt, BC. Public open casket viewing from 1:30-1:50, funeral mass at 2:00pm. Please join the family in the church hall for a reception following the service.
