Wilfred Gordon ‘Gordie’ Binns, of Garden Bay, BC, passed away, Friday, March 23rd, 2018 at the age of 90 in his home. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday July 21 at his home in Garden Bay. There will be an informal gathering of friends and family beginning at 12:00 pm, with a formal ‘Sharing’ of Gordie stories starting at 2 pm. At 3 pm, the formal ‘Scattering of Ashes at Sea’ will happen in Duncan Cove, where Gordie spent many hours watching the boats come and go, socializing with friends, neighbours and former customers. Light snacks and refreshments will be supplied.
Should guests choose to remember Gordie with a gift, please consider donating to either the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society http://scsalmon.org/donate-salmon-enhancement-chapman-creek-hatcheryenvironmental-educations-programs or the Pender Harbour Health Centre Endowment Fund at http://www.penderharbourhealth.com/endowment-fund/, the former being particularly important in Gord’s early life, the latter in the twilight. Gordon was born in 1927, in New Westminster, BC, and married his beautiful wife June in 1949, and is survived by his two sons, Douglas, 63, and Ronald, 61, along with 4 grandchildren, Kelsey, Sarah, Alyssa, and Andrew – all of whom he was very proud of. Gordie was a tradesman, and proud of it, but most of all, he was a dreamer and an entrepreneur. He and June built three businesses together, including his dream business of one day owning and operating a resort. Gordie died on his own terms, in his home on the water, peacefully, with his son Doug by his side, with no pain. He was loved in the community and he will be missed.
