Adrienne Bradley Obituary

It is with great sadness that we observe the passing of our mother and friend, Adrienne Molly Bradley, who passed away peacefully in her room on Sunday December 29, 2019 with two close friends by her side.

Adrienne lived a life full of adventure and with a passion for a worthy cause. She would always challenge herself to fulfill another outdoor pursuit in order to help her overcome her lifelong struggle with chronic asthma which she’d had since childhood.

Adrienne was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand; the only daughter of Evelyn and Roy Inglis. It was there that she met and married 12 years later [1954] her [now ex] husband, Ray Bradley and gave birth to her first son, Gresham [1954] before moving to Australia [March 1955] where her second son, Brett, was born [1956] in Canberra.
Adrienne was a trained and gifted educator. Beginning in Auckland, both Ray and Adrienne were the ‘Lead Male’ and ‘Lead Female’ Graduate Students at the Auckland Teacher’s Training College. In Australia, after returning to Canberra from Oxford and a round-the-world-trip, Adrienne taught as a primary school teacher with Brett as one of her pupils. Later, after the family returned to Auckland [1963], she began working with Scholastic Books to ensure that young children would have a readily available supply of good books to read.  Adrienne also began working with some of the renowned educational innovators of the time [including a famed female novelist and educator who was esteemed for her contributions to child education and lectured throughout the world - including at Simon Fraser University]. Adrienne was very creative too. She loved to create pottery which she managed to do until a plane accident prevented her from continuing on.

Adrienne was a warm, happy, thoughtful and kind-hearted person - always concerned about the welfare of the less fortunate. She cared deeply about people, about the right thing to do and helping-out whenever she could.

Adrienne had a zest for life. She loved wild remote places – deserted beaches and bush walks and so much more. She loved a wide range of music and she REALLY loved to dance!

Adrienne is survived by her son Gresham and son-in-law Steve, Son Brett and daughter-in-law Fon, and her grand-daughter Aleisha. Adrienne is also survived by her two closest friends, Sarah and Fiona.

We would like to thank all the caregivers at Cedar House Cottage, Christenson Village, for all their care during this time.
