Allen WYNNE Obituary

Allen was raised in Minaty Bay and lived in Brackendale until graduating from Howe Sound Secondary. His love of the outdoors came from the natural environment in which he grew up. He was an active climber, skier, cyclist and hiked many mountains in the Squamish/Whistler area. After attending Wilderness Recreation College in Yamnuska, he became an Outdoor Recreation Educator teaching and guiding kayaking along the West Coast. He had varied interests in Holistic Health and pursued a career in Chinese medicine and Shiatsu Therapy. He had trained in Martial Arts from an early age and became an accomplished Aikido Sensai. Allen met Lorraine in 1997 and shortly thereafter, they moved to the Sunshine Coast where he opened Gibsons Aikido Dojo. Along the way, Allen had to make changes to his lifestyle and teaching methods. He took up the challenge as he always managed to do. With his intense desire to help people and his background in Holistic education...he had the courage to come back. He taught Systema for several years then obtained a diploma in Counselling and opened Traumawest Counselling. He practiced “Grace under Pressure” as he taught in his educational courses. He inspired all of us as he continued to strive. He was an avid gardener and musician spending many hours playing guitar and composing his own music. Allen passed away peacefully at home in Gibsons with family by his side, with the loving support of the VCH home care nursing team and Tracey from Nurse Next Door. We are forever grateful to Dr. Michael McKenzie, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Shapiro, Dr. Boyd, Dr. Finlay, Dr. Bauer and so many caring nurses and medical professionals that he met along the way (you’ll remember him so you know who you are). Thank you to his friends and family for their endless loving support from beginning to end. Allen is survived by his wife, Lorraine; Mom, Carol; Step-Dad Jim; Mother-in-law, Johanna; Step-Sister Caela; Sister-in-laws, Ingrid and Kathy; Grandma (Ann) and Grandpa (Gordon) Manning; many loving Aunts and Uncles; Systema Brothers, Vali and Kaizen, Cousins and friends. Pre-deceased by his Dad, Byron; Grandma and Grandpa Wynne and childhood friend Silvano. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the CNIB or a charity of your choice. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life.
