Long-time resident of Roberts Creek, passed away peacefully at Sechelt Hospital on August 19, 2017 after suffering a stroke. Born February 1, 1931 to Elizabeth and James Worrall of Vancouver, BC. Predeceased by first wife, Barbara. Survived and missed by wife of 40 years, Margaret, son Jim (Esther), daughter Cindy (Jon) and grandchildren Graeme and Jacob. Also survived by sister Linda of Kirkland, Washington and nephews Tim (Mary) and Paul (Lori), great-nephews Nick and Ryan, great-niece Melissa, cousins Mary, Sonya and Ruth in England. His faithful companion, Trooper the German Shepherd, will miss him especially. Dad had a love of the outdoors; whether it was building the family cabin on the beach and later his dream home on the hill, gardening, bee keeping, bird watching and fishing. Dad was always hard at work. His 38 years as a Horticulturist with the Vancouver Parks Board caring for Stanley Park and the Conservatory turned into a life-long passion in the garden. Dad started with washing flower pots and retired in 1987 as a supervisor responsible for the planting and maintenance of many of Vancouver's most beautiful public gardens. This love of gardening transformed the family property into a locally renowned garden, filled with many ornamental trees, rhododendrons, flowers and a huge vegetable garden. Photos of his labour of love were even featured in gardening magazines. Well into his retirement and even after his first two strokes he could be found watering the gardens and weeding for hours every day. He was determined to keep those dandelions at bay! An avid fisherman, one summer he was able to catch 28 salmon casting from the shores of Bonniebrook. Special thank you to Dr. Hourigan for his many years of care and especially to the ER, Second Floor and CCU nurses at Sechelt Hospital for your exceptional care of Dad and our family. No service by request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Gibsons Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Dave Worrall's name.
