Donna Louise Nelson

Born September 1, 1952 to Harold and Cathrine Nelson, Donna Nelson was raised on the Sunshine Coast with her brother and sister, Derek andSharon, where they spent summers berry picking and playing in nature with their cousins.

Active and engaged in her community, Donna graduated from Elphinstone Secondary in 1970 and went on to complete the BCIT Radiology program.  Donna held a lifetime career as staff radiologist at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she cared for the Sunshine Coast population, excelled in her field, and was committed to her profession up to retirement.

Donna married Jerry Mielke in 1978 and soon after they welcomed their two boys, Duane and Darren, who continue to live on the Coast today. Later in life, Donna met and married Don Ewing, together they enjoyed traveling and were active members of the Rotary Club. Donna survived both of her husbands.

Donna’s charitable nature was evident by the generous support she provided many individuals and groups, both at home and abroad, throughout her lifetime. Despite her own physical limitations and chronic pain, Donna lent herself outwards to others, most recently volunteering her time teaching English to newcomers.

A loving, generous and responsible mother, Donna is survived by her two sons, Duane Mielke (Amanda Mielke), Darren Mielke, step-daughter  Korrena Mielke, her three young grandchildren, Myles, Jada and Braeden, her siblings Derek and Sharon, and a large loving extended family. Donna will be laid to rest beside her mother and grandmother at St. Hilda’s Anglican Church. 

Donna loved her family and spending time with all of them. Her passing was sudden and unexpected. She will be remembered for her love, service, and generosity to others.

Reception for close family following service at Donna’s residence at 5708 Emily Way, West Sechelt.
