Douglas Reid of Sechelt passed away peacefully at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Josephine (Cousins) Reid and sisters Thelma Lower and Gladys Warner. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 38 years, Gesa (Schwampe), children Terri, Gordon and Brenda, grandchildren Anya (Hayes) Zirnhelt, Sophia (Duncan) McEwen and Spencer Coulter, and great-grandson Maverick McEwen.
Douglas spent his childhood in Vancouver, graduating from Magee High and then U.B.C. with a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology. His career in personnel management spanned 30 years. The last 35 years of his life were enjoyed in Sechelt. He was an active member of the community, serving as an alderman and taking leadership roles in various Sechelt political and community organizations.
Music was Doug's passion. He was a songwriter, composer and arranger for concert and big bands. He played tenor sax for the Kitsilano Boys Band, Alumni Band and West Vancouver Community Band and baritone sax for Sunshine Coast Concert Band and Creek Big Band. He also loved playing and composing on his baby grand piano. Athletic pursuits included tennis, golf and swimming.
Local residents may fondly remember Doug driving his red sports car and walking the seawall in Davis Bay.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
