Gerald passed peacefully surrounded by love and family at Sechelt Hospital on March 15, 2018 at the age of 80. Gerald was born on April 4, 1937 in St. Johns, Newfoundland to George and Dorothy Martin (Squires). He moved from Newfoundland to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1960. After spending a few years in Regina, Gerald and Rose moved to Gibsons, British Columbia to start their life together. He married Rose, the love of his life on July 28, 1962 before starting their family in 1963. After moving to Gibsons in 1962, Gerald began working at the Canfor Pulp Mill and eventually retired in 2002. Retirement didn’t slow him down; driving for Ford, walking all over Gibsons, road trips in their motorhome, card games, singing, and dancing up a storm any chance he had. Gerry is predeceased by his father George Martin, mother Dorothy Martin (Squires), step father William Squires, and brother Larry Martin. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Rose; Loving daughters, Sharlene, Geraldine, Deanna (George) and Krista; Grandchildren, Daniel (Kyleen), James, Christie (Jeremy), Justyne (Jesse), Brittani, Allysa, Dakoda, Ryan, Madison and Charlie; Great Grandchildren, Nathaniel, Ryleigh, Slayne, Grey, Isabelle, and Evan; Sisters, Elizabeth Murphy and Doreen (Bill) Hillier; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. . All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerald’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC. A heartfelt Thank You to Dr Paul Murphy and Dr Carla Paetkau, we will never forget your outstanding and tender care.
