HOWARD WINSTON SMITH

Howard was born in Australia into a loving Christian family. He was the youngest of four children. He graduated from the University of N.S.W. in 1963 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He married the love of his life, Dorothy, in November 1963 and they had four dearly loved children, two sons and two daughters, all born in Australia. Over time they had 20 precious grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with twins expected in June. In 1973, they immigrated to Canada where Howard found work at a consulting firm in Vancouver where he worked until he retired. The three loves of Howard's life were his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, his wife of 54 years and his family, and his music. He played the organ and piano and taught some of the grandchildren piano. He served his Lord teaching Sunday school, being a deacon, treasurer, organist, pianist and choir director. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 which he accepted with a quiet acceptance that this was God's will for his life at this time. He endured his treatments and pain with grace and courage and passed peacefully into the Lord's presence at home with his wife and family December 8 at 12:50 a.m. after extracting from Dorothy a few days earlier a promise to follow him as soon as the Lord permitted. We love him dearly and will miss him constantly but rejoice that he is forever with his Lord. In lieu of flowers, donations to Samaritan's Purse would be appreciated.
