August 21, 1923 - May 6, 2017 Born and raised on a farm near Minto, Manitoba, Laura moved to Vancouver in 1947 where she met and married Harold Rayner. They built their house and raised their family in North Burnaby. She was a member of the United Church where she also taught kindergarten and was very active in the women's auxiliary. Harold and Laura moved to Gibsons in 1977 to the home they loved on Ocean Beach Esplanade. Laura was active in the community as a member of the Gibsons branch of the hospital auxiliary for 35 years and as a long time member of the Gibsons Garden Club. She had many friends and acquaintances among the walkers on OBE where she could be found tending her Garden by the Sea, often with a wild 'pet rabbit' nearby. If you were lucky you would be invited in for the full garden tour. Laura was a great baker, muffin and scone maker. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting family dinners. A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, she was always interested in other people and put their needs before her own. She particularly enjoyed talking to children and would engage any child she encountered in conversation. She was our rock, our compass north, and we will miss her generous heart. Survived by her daughters Louise and Sylvia (Art), grandchildren: Kate (Joël), Alex, Jacqui (Chris), great-granddaughter Ella and sister Doreen. Predeceased by husband Harold (2008), parents Fred and Emma and siblings Harvey, Helen, George, Howard and Ken. We are grateful to the wonderful staff at Christansen Village for their care and support during the last two years. A Celebration of Life to be held later in the summer.
