Miroslav Edward Vydra

It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden, unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Miroslav Edward Vydra on Friday, June 22, 2018. Miroslav was born in Prague to parents Eduard and Pavla Vydra on August 20, 1933. In October of 1968 he and his family immigrated to Canada arriving in Montreal, then settling in Prescott Ontario. After a long and successful career with Rehau Plastics he and his wife Marcela moved to Abbotsford, then Hope and finally to their beloved Sechelt, BC. 
First and foremost, Miroslav was a true family man.  As an adventurer, he loved to travel and all things outdoors including cycling, camping, kayaking, skiing, sailing, and hiking.  He instilled this zest for life in his children. He was passionate about his community and volunteered for many years at The Festival for the Written Arts, Dakota Ridge and he was a loyal supporter of the library. He loved music from big band to classical and was a poet, an avid reader, and a fixer of all things. 
In his youth he was the National Champion of cross country/shooting biathlons and men's parallel bars . He played tennis,  piano, clarinet, saxophone, and accordion.  As a youth he acted in amateur theatre productions. Miroslav always believed in the goodness of people and the betterment of his community and oh how he loved talking to people - and the Queen of England.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Survived by his wife Marcela of 61 years, his son John (Angela) and their children; his daughter Blanka (Geoffrey) and their children; and daughter Renata (Rob) and their children. We are comforted by the knowledge that he is welcomed in heaven by his grandson with whom he has resumed their chess matches.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday June 30th at 1pm at Devlin Funeral Home in Gibsons. In lieu of flowers the family would be grateful for donations to Dakota Ridge, The Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts  and the Sechelt Library .
