It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Elan Richardson announces her passing on May 7, 2018 at the age of 92. Shirley was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and loved to attend Sunday school every week. As a young woman she enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Women’s Corps, as a cook and could also be found making Bren Guns in Toronto when WWII broke out. After leaving the military, Shirley moved west to Calgary and met her husband Jack. Shirley and Jack ended up in Gibsons, BC where they lived for the rest of their lives. Shirley worked for the BC Ferries for many years until she retired. Shirley was predeceased by her late husband Jack Richardson after 25 years of marriage, sister Edna de Hemptinne, and brothers Dave, Stu, and Joe McNeil. Shirley is survived by her eldest niece and nephew Marg Derbyshire and Dick French and numerous other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Shirley is also survived by her stepson Wayne Richardson (Brenda), sister-in-law Margaret Pascoe, and other family members in Nova Scotia. Shirley lived a very full and active life and loved to stay in touch with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 01-09, 747 Gibsons Way RR9, Gibsons, BC, V0N 1V9 on May 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 01-09 or Happy Cat Haven, 760 School Road, Gibsons, BC, V0N 1V9.
