Albert “Al” Ostrosky passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Anastasia, and his brother Eddie. Al is survived by his loving wife Rita, with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage in August. He leaves behind his sister Olga (Bruce), his sons Brian (Mari Ann) and Larry (Jacquie), his daughter Donna, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Al was a country boy at heart, born and raised in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. There he met Rita, and they later married in 1960. In 1964, they moved out west to Vancouver, then left for Gibsons so Al could work at the Port Mellon Pulp Mill for a few months. Afterward, they returned to Vancouver, where Al began his long career with the Liquor Store in 1965. Their journey then took them to Port Edward for a short time, followed by Ocean Falls, before finally settling in Gibsons in 1977.

Al enjoyed the simple pleasures: fishing, watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, cheering on his beloved Canucks that he so badly wanted to see win a Stanley Cup, and leisurely driving around the coast with his wife.

He took great pride in the life he built for his family. Many in the community will fondly remember him as the warm and friendly manager of the Gibsons Liquor Store for many years, where he always had a smile and a joke ready.

The family wishes to thank the friends, neighbours and community members who shared laughter, stories and friendship with Al over the years. They would also like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to his doctors who attended to him over the years and to all of the St. Mary’s Hospital staff for their kindness and compassionate care.

Cremation has been carried out in accordance with Al’s wishes. There will be a private family remembrance at a later date. If so desired, donations can be made to the Sechelt Hospital Foundation.
