Barbara Cowan Obituary

Barbara Cowan was born in England in 1935 and spent her childhood in Burton Joyce in Nottinghamshire. She moved to Canada as a young girl after WW2.

Her first job was at Dairyland. She met and married her husband Terry in the mid 1950's and they lived in Vancouver where dad was a firefighter. There, they had their first two children, Terry and Lee-Anne. They bought their first home and moved to Richmond in the late 60's while dad continued his career with the VFD. They had their son Drew in 1968. Once Drew was in school in the mid 70's, Barbara took a job at B.C. Packers in the employment office. If you worked there in the 70's or 80's you probably picked up a paycheque from her.

After Terry retired from the VFD, he and Barbara moved to Pitt Meadows as she wanted a more rural lifestyle. They lived in Pitt Meadows for about 10 years and it turned out the city life was trying to follow them. To escape that, they moved out further to Madeira Park on the Sunshine Coast, where they lived out the rest of their lives. Mom was active in the community garden club while dad golfed and sang in the choir.

Mom always loved animals and fed the wild birds and any domesticated animals that wandered into her yard. Through her flower garden she often unwillingly fed the deer too.

We're all going to miss her, but take comfort that she is resting in peace now.
