Barry Gilson Obituary

Barry Gilson
March 10, 1957 – March 21, 2021

Barry’s generous and loving spirit connected with everyone he met, enriching lives with kindness and laughter.

His creativity spanned many disciplines from design-architecture, public art, musical theatre to his earlier business endeavours of record keeping and quantitative technologies. He was a collaborator and a leader.

He loved to create wonderful meals for all occasions – any excuse for a gathering! Always up for a game of cards or racquet ball. He loved to win.  His competitive spirit (although incredibly annoying in scrabble games), together with his strong willpower and high standards of excellence contributed to his success in business and in life.

Barry’s wonderful sense of style witnessed in his attire, to his organizing of events, his joyful playing of piano and love of the arts. He could spend hours in museums and cathedrals absorbing the atmosphere and history. His enthusiasm contagious.

A generous, devoted father, loyal friend, and loving husband, Barry cherished his family. From his huge extended family to his work family, his spirit of acceptance and support united us all.

Barry passed away peacefully on Sunday March 21st surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his children: Mallory Lee-Gilson, Kelsey Lee-Gilson, Pamela Gilson, Ben Kamphuis and Ayrann Kamphuis, his loving wife Maryann Kamphuis; his long-time friend and former partner, Patty Lee; his many extended in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews; his UK siblings, nieces and nephews and his Mum Brenda.

Barry is cherished and will be forever part of those who felt his kindness. Forever in our hearts.
