Brock Patrick O’Byrne 

August 30, 1949 – March 9, 2023

Brock touched everyone and everything with his grace, kindness, humour and love. Over his lifetime he engaged in many creative and transcendental pursuits — with music and T’ai Chi being primary focuses. He loved the bass guitar, playing for many decades with a beloved community of musicians. He studied martial arts with various masters and passed along his  knowledge and skills by teaching T’ai Chi for over four decades, as well as founding the Roberts Creek Tai Chi Association. He also loved to play snooker — kicking ass with his brothers and teammates in “The Roberts Creek Big Sticks” since the early 90s. He built and renovated homes, had a deep appreciation for beautiful cars and loved his partners in the Gumboot Cafe and Restaurant.

Another hallmark of Brock’s life was his enduring connections to his community. His generosity was impactful, his style and way of being influential. He made lifelong friends wherever he lived and enjoyed helping others succeed.

Brock had a loving and happy life with his wife Laurie. They enjoyed over 40 years of marriage – playing music, teaching T’ai Chi and developing many other creative and business projects together. Their most beloved creation is their daughter Ryley, a beautiful and conscious reflection of their light and love. Brock often expressed his deep gratitude for Laurie and Ryley.

Brock was cherished by his parents, Elieen and Michael, his five sisters and five brothers, their spouses and children as well as many other close extended family members and friends.

Brock was born in Edmonton, Alberta. He lived abroad — in London, Sydney, and San Francisco — before making his home in Roberts Creek 32 years ago. He was bravely fighting cancer, though died of a heart attack.

Love and Peace dear Brock. You always gave it and you will ever more receive it. Venture on. The planet will miss you, but the universe awaits you.  

The family is holding a celebration of Brock’s life Saturday March 25th, welcoming friends and community members from 2pm to 5pm at the Blue Ocean Golf Club in Sechelt.
