Dane left 32 years of pain, confusion and the frustration of fighting Parkinson’s disease on April 21, 2026.
Thankfully, I was by his side, holding his hand, as he passed. He is now reunited with his loving Mother and Father.
Where does one begin to describe their partner, husband, goofy guy they have loved for 34 years?
We met on Christmas Day in 1992. He noticed my gold lamé stockings. The beginning of our getting to know each other, dating, moving in together & marrying on May 27, 1995.
Dane, born in Toronto, living in Kitchener with his Mom, Dad & older brother Mark, left Kitchener for Victoria where he became a Journeyman Carpenter in his younger years. He returned to school, attending BCIT, then returned to the University of Waterloo to complete his degree in Environmental Studies. This became his career.
Knowing my love for Paris, when he asked me to marry him, he asked if I wanted to marry in Paris or honeymoon there. I chose honeymoon. He then mapped out a fabulous month long journey around France, starting in Paris. We returned to France for our 5th anniversary, renting a home in Provence.
We went to LaRochelle, France & stood in the port where Olivier Charboneau boarded a ship for Quebec City in the 1600s.
After he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, we decided we would travel as long as we could. We travelled through Canada, the US, Mexico, Europe and South America. We switched to cruises when land travel became difficult for him.
He was intelligent & funny & taught me so much. He introduced me to cats in 1995. I became a crazy cat lady thanks to Dane.
He taught me how to garden, which became a passion in gardens at our homes in Roberts Creek and Davis Bay.
He was a great chef, baker, canner, as well as handy, teaching me how to paint and do minor renovations, while he did major ones in our homes.
I hated what Parkinson’s did to him over the years - robbing him of so many pleasures. His sense of humour got us through many difficult times.
Always in my heart. I cherish all the beautiful memories we made together.
