Dennis Martin was born in Toronto on October 26th 1948.
He moved to Roberts Creek BC in the Eighties, working as a Crane Operator at Port Mellon and serving as a Union Representative. Dennis made the most of his West Coast wilderness life. His greatest joys included foraging and wildcrafting, hunting moose and deer with his friend Dean, fishing, crabbing, brewing, caring for his gardens and preserving and sharing their bounty. Known to all as an outspoken, sometimes curmudgeonly person, he was also kind, generous, and unfailingly supportive of the underdog. He was politically informed and a philanthropist, especially of wildlife charities. Friends will remember him fondly as a wonderful cook, a passionate debater, and someone who would be there to help whenever they needed it. He and his dog were often to be found at Roberts Creek Pier in the mornings no matter the weather, and his loved ones will no doubt feel his presence there. He passed away at home on October 23rd 2023, the last warm day of the year. He is survived by two of his three sisters, their children, and friends who he treated as his second family. His humour, courage, and fierce commitment to justice will be remembered always. You are a legend, Dennis.
