Doris Olstad Obituary

Doris (Syvern) Olstad (nee Lind) June 15, 1933 – January 28, 2021 On January 28, 2021, Doris Syneva Olstad passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Doris was born June 15, 1933, in Camrose, Alberta to Martin & Eleanor (nee Dagsgard) Lind. She was the youngest of 3 children. Most of her childhood and adolescence was spent on Vancouver Island – living in Kyuquot, Ucluelet, and Port Alberni.

In Port Alberni, Doris met the love of her life, Louran Harvey (Bud) Olstad. Anxious to start their lives together Bud approached his future father-in-law, Martin, to request permission to marry Doris before she turned 18. Martin told Bud that if their love was so strong it would be best if they could wait. On a beautiful summer day, in Port Alberni, Doris & Bud married - June 16th, 1951 - one day after Doris’ 18th birthday. Their journey together gave them 3 wonderful children, two daughters - Susan Miller, Vicky (David) Williamson, & son, Randy (Emma) Olstad; 5 beautiful grandchildren – granddaughters, Kelly, & Cindy Miller, & grandsons, Christopher Williamson, Nickolas, & Ethan Olstad; and an amazing great-grandson, Kenny Baumgard.

Doris enjoyed her career as an Accountant. She worked solo for many big companies, until she opted to work from home, doing books for many different companies. She enjoyed her career – like all other aspects of her life – it fulfilled her.

While dementia robbed her of her latter years, Doris packed a beautiful life into every other year. The romance and love between her & Bud lasted to the very end & will go on from there. Their years took them to Port Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, and to Gibsons. All family, on both sides, was very important to Doris – she made every effort to get all extended family together once or twice every year. Friendships were no different – they were to be treasured – especially their friendships with Ray & Maxine Tweedie, and Doug & Eileen Wylie – those bonds were permanent – not many gatherings happened, family or otherwise, without them. While their kids were small, the Olstad & Tweedie families holidayed together every summer – usually camping by a lake or the ocean. In later years, the children all grown, Doris, Bud, Ray, & Maxine spent a month every winter in Mexico.

Doris was predeceased by her parents, Martin & Eleanor Lind, her brother-in-law, George Pownall, her sister, Clarice Pownall, her brother, Bryan Lind, and her sonin-law, Ken Miller.

Doris was a go-getter – life with her was always interesting, usually fun, and she filled the worlds of those around her with love and laughter.
