Douglas Reid Obituary

Douglas D. Reid passed unexpectedly on November 15, 2018 at age 75 years.  He was predeceased by his parents Norman and Bernice Reid and his sister Phyllis.  He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gillian (Jill) Reid, daughters, Karaleen (Bryan), Gioia, Gwen (Brian) Thornburn and Kelly Reid, granddaughter Sarah and grandson Daniel Thornburn, stepsons Steve (Michelle) Haswell, Shaun Haswell and step-granddaughter  Amanda Haswell, brother Norm (Leah) Reid and sister Lois Zaremba and many nieces and nephews.

Doug was a natural athlete talented in curling, hockey, baseball and he spent a number of years as a professional golfer.  As an amateur golfer Dough was club champion at Vancouver Golf Club a number of times.  He then made a career change and became an accountant.  His love of baseball carried over into his being a lifelong Yankees fan.  Doug passed his love of sports on to his daughters by teaching them to skate and play golf.  He was proud to caddy for his youngest daughter Kelly at the 2000 B.C. Women’s Provincial Championship.

So many great memories - playing crib where he made up rules to help him win, reading to his grandchildren, keeping the secret ingredient in his potato salad a secret, driving Karaleen to dance lessons, walking Gwen down the aisle, and weekly assessments of all the things sports related with Kelly.  He loved his stepsons and step granddaughter and had many great times and memories with them as well.

For the past few years Doug and Jill wintered in Arizona where Doug was just as popular at the park and golf course as he was at home.  He knew people wherever he went and made many friends along the way including his Arizona friends.  It wasn’t uncommon to hear someone shout “Dougie!”.  His laugh and his love of people and life will not soon be forgotten.

Well done Dougie you played a great round in style.  We miss you!
