Godfrey Robinson Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Godfrey Allan Robinson on August 24th in Sechelt, BC. Godfrey leaves behind his three daughters, Carrie Robinson (Ron Szymanski), Leah McCaw (Dan McCaw) and Michelle Reardon along with his five grandchildren, Olivia, Jossyln, and Abigail (Michelle and Ron) and Daniel and James (Leah and Dan) whom he adored.

Godfrey was born and raised in Gibsons. Godfrey and the Robinson family were active members of the community. Born to Eva Mae (nee Rousell) and Charles Robinson, he was the youngest of five brothers and an avid athlete in high school including being a basketball coach and student body President in his grade 12 year. Godfrey married his high school sweetheart, and they lived briefly in Barhead Alberta where he tried his hand driving truck before moving to Prince George and working at the mill while running his hobby farm in Salmon Valley. He had an active social life with friends, snowmobiling, hunting and curling.  He learned to ride horses, loved a good rodeo and had a close bond with his horse Sol. But the call back to Gibsons, the ocean, and his roots were strong, and he returned with his young family in 1987.

Godfrey worked in Port Mellon on the dry land sort, but always a man of many ideas, he started his herring business Anchor Baits in Halfmoon Bay while working full time. He had many years of success, and eventually he wound it down. Later in life, he returned to farming with support of his family on Russel Rd. His raspberries and strawberries were some of the best ever grown. If you drink local Gibsons Gin, you may have also sampled his rhubarb.

He loved all things outdoors, camping, hunting, farming and fishing. He was an entrepreneur at heart, always hardworking and if you debated him on any topic, you would know his passion as well. Providing for his family was part of his core purpose, and at family gatherings, he often treated everyone with the salmon, crab and prawns he caught.

His family takes comfort knowing that the five Robinson brothers, Charlie, Carmen, Winston, John and Godfrey are together again. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of life that is being planned on October 19th in Gibsons. If you wish to be part of the service, please email godfreyrobinson1949@gmail.com for further details which will be available in due course.
