Guy Bayard Lautard: November 14, 1946 to May 18, 2025, Sechelt, B.C.
Predeceased by his beloved parents, Émile Lautard and Mary Bernice (née Bubar) Lautard, Guy is survived by his brother Hugh Lautard and many family members across British Columbia, New Brunswick and beyond.
Guy's education began at home on the Kettle Valley railway, taught by his mother for Grades 1 to 3, who was an experienced teacher. His family moved to Princeton, BC for Grades 4 to 5, then to Vancouver, BC to finish high school. Guy obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at UBC.
Guy worked in various fields, including reclamation, forestry, environmental consulting, banking and writing.
Guy became interested in metal work, which led to utilizing his talent for writing and publishing several books, including the 3-volume “Machinist's Bedside Reader”. When asked about writing as an occupation, Guy shrugged and said, “It’s not hard – it’s all in the dictionary-all ya gotta do is organize it.”
He treasured memories of growing up, especially from summers on his aunt and uncle’s ranch near Beaverdell, BC.
The influence of family, ranching and rural British Columbia was reflected in his work. Guy had a keen sense of right and wrong and did not mince words with others.
