Harry Frederick Denham

Harry passed peacefully at home with family close by on January 27, 2021. Harry was born (1923) and raised in Preston, now Cambridge, Ontario. After graduating from University of Toronto in Engineering, he started work in his home town with the Lake Erie and Northern and Grand River Railway, and then was transferred to the Canadian Pacific Railway in Toronto.

In 1947 he joined Imperial Oil for a 36 year career and in 1948 he married Marnie Devey. This was the start of a wonderful 67 ½ years of family life, with 4 children and about 20 changes of address, from Ontario to Quebec, Manitoba, British Columbia and Yokohama, Japan.

Harry was a do-it-yourselfer and helped with many of the kid’s home renovations. He was active in sports and met Marnie on the tennis courts of Soper Park in Galt. Even in his much later years after retirement, he continued to enjoy tennis, golf, and softball. Marnie shared his love of the Big Band era of music and dancing.

Harry and Marnie loved their children deeply and were proud of them and the families that John, Susan, and Jane parented. All were devastated by the loss of son Robbie at age 33, whose ashes, partly in Whistler Cemetery, will be interred with Marnie’s and Harry’s at their gravestone site at Mountview Cemetery in the Galt section of Cambridge. ohn (Nancy), Susan, Jane, his 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren will miss Harry dearly but love that he and Marnie are now dancing together in the stars.
