Jane Ford Obituary

Jane Elizabeth Ford died peacefully in her home in Sechelt, BC on August 22, 2022 surrounded by family.  Jane is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughters Susan (Shawn), Andrea (Rod) and Jocelyn (Lance), son Jeff (Jenn), grandchildren Emma, Wyatt, Amelia and Violet.  Jane is pre-deceased by her husband Dr. Bruce Ford, and brothers Jack Alexander and Fred Alexander.

Jane was born in Windsor, Ontario and during her upbringing lived in several towns in Ontario including St. Catherines, Cobourg, and London.  She had many fond memories of her time with family at the cottage in Leamington.

Jane followed her passion for music and art and graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Toronto Teacher’s College in the early sixties and went on to teach elementary art classes.  She also spent several summers living and working in the Rocky Mountains which left a deep impression on her and would shape her artwork to come.

Jane and Bruce moved out west in 1967 and settled in West Vancouver.  Jane was an accomplished visual artist and painted hundreds of works throughout her career.  Always learning, she completed her BFA in Visual Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.  Jane was a great promoter of the arts in West Vancouver where she successfully campaigned to save the Ferry Building as a cultural centre available to all the community.  There she served as a curator and would help hang works of art by her fellow artists.  For many years she continued to teach art classes at the senior centre in West Van and in Sechelt.  She was also a master gardener and designed elaborate gardens in every home she lived in.

Jane shared her love of the mountains, her knowledge of art, gardening, and life with her children and grandchildren.  Jane’s family would like to pass on our deepest gratitude to the wonderful nursing team, Mitch, Lori, and Janese from Sechelt Palliative Care.

A celebration of life will be held at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens on Saturday October 1st at 5941 Mason Road in Sechelt from 11am-2pm.
