Jared Wannamaker Obituary

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden, unexpected and tragic passing of our beloved Jared Ryan Wannamaker at the young age of 38, in the stormy early morning of August 7th, 2021. Jared was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of three boys. His big brothers Kyle and Trent were thrilled to have a little brother. They loved him to pieces and were so proud! True to Jared’s nature, from the time he was little, he was always on the go! Jared’s family relocated back to the Sunshine Coast before he began school. As time progressed, Jared’s momma Juanita met Ken (who Jared always referred to as his dad) and they brought their families together. At times, there were a total of six boys under one roof. Never a dull moment! From a young age, Jared excelled in sports. He began curling at the young age of 6 at the Gibsons Curling Club, which lead him to many notable achievements in the sport. One of Jared’s highlights was representing Canada and skipping his teammates in the International Winter Festival in Japan in 2003. The team came home with a bronze medal for their achievements and many fond memories. Jared won multiple bonspiel titles and at one time, a rare eight-ender! Members would often joke about getting their name on the ‘Wannamaker’ Cup! Golf topped Jared’s list of accomplishments as well. He was a Junior Club Champion at one time, also winning the Sechelt Amateur Champion and the local Father/Son tournament along with Ken. Always a team player! Jared spent time working in the Pro Shop at the Sechelt Golf Course as well. Jared was a born leader who excelled in several areas. He spent time over the years working at the dry land sort, the pulp mill, as a theatre manager, a restaurant manager and a retail store manager. Many will know Jared as the helpful and cheerful face of Super-Valu, where he managed and worked along side his dedicated staff. Jared and Colleen were friends for a number of years before dating. Their chemistry finally brought them together and they were unstoppable! With permission from the kids, he proposed to Colleen within a few short months. Jared and Colleen were married August 23, 2014, during a small intimate gathering at his family’s home. Colleen was truly the love of his life! His everything. They shared a love together that many search for their whole lives to find. He adored McKenzie, Kaitie and Carter and was always grateful to have a family to love and protect. Jared and Colleen bought their forever home together in Roberts Creek and shared it with their beloved pooches Bella and Zeva as well as their cat Finn. Jared was larger than life! He was thoughtful, giving and always fun! If you were lucky to be loved by Jared, you were lucky…and you knew it! Jared had many passions including; cooking and entertaining, competition of any sort, playing cards and games, camping, boating and fishing. He always looked forward to the yearly fishing trip with Ken, Carter and his brothers. Jared also loved tending to his yard and making his home a wonderful place for his family and friends to share. Jared sadly leaves behind his loving wife Colleen and their children McKenzie, Kaitie and Carter. Jared will also be in the hearts of his momma Juanita, dad Ken and his two older brothers Kyle and Trent forever. Jared will also be remembered by his stepbrothers, Mark, Paul and Drew, their partners as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Jared will also be remembered by members of the Wannamaker, Chamberlin and Smith families. He had many friends, neighbours, team mates, coworkers, and customers who will miss his presence. His life was far reaching and his love and kindness was felt by many. Taken from us far too soon but will remain forever and always in our hearts. A special thank you to the Procknow Family-Chad, Chrystal, Cameron & Andrew; Tank you for your love and support during this extremely difficult time. We appreciate all of your help, it will not soon be forgotten. We love and thank you. A Celebration of Jared’s Life will be held on Saturday August 28th, from 1:00-3:00pm at Camp Sunrise in Langdale (next to the ferry terminal). All are welcome to attend.
