Jonathan George Andrew Glencross

Jon Glencross was an outstanding human being.

Born in Cornwall, he was immensely proud of his heritage, and made sure you knew it. A magical place with its own language and traditions, perfect pasties, and where the English are only allowed in to visit.

 After leaving school he became 'Farmer Jon' and his passion for animals and their welfare began. With Ali, orphan lambs were fostered in the farm kitchen whilst one had its own shelter, well-hidden so no one thought the farmer had gone soft! Many more followed, and all would live out their lives on the farm. One became famous, Scooby Doo, the paralysed lamb who went to a chiropractor and had a growing audience of people following his progress. Boycy the Llama was another addition to Jon’s menagerie who was infamous with the equestrian community.

Alongside farming, Jon mastered the Cornish tradition of stone hedging and there are still many fine examples of his craft if you know where to look. Jon cherished every minute of his last visit back home to see lifelong friends who will never forget him. He loved and respected history and was never happier than when researching his father's and grandfather's service in the Navy. As a Navy League officer, he wore the uniform with fierce pride in their memory.

Leaving Cornwall together with his beloved wife, was a huge life event which he embraced fully …… “we speak the same language, it will be easy” he thought, not knowing how many times he would be proved wrong in a comical translation.

Jon’s contribution to his adopted Coastal Community, in so many aspects of life has been immense, and there are now so many people and organisations who call him their own and see him as family. From his friends back home to his Canadian friends, he loved and valued you all. His London Drugs family, Navy League, Youth Target Sports and Sea Cavalcade, Gibsons Lions Club & Gibsons Legion all have memories of his joy and laughter, and of course not forgetting the turkey hats...

As a prolific Facebook poster he would be overwhelmed to read your tributes, thoughts, feelings, and love now flooding in from every group. He was far too humble to realise the extent of the contribution he made that touched so many people.

Jon’s memory will be treasured by those of us who are still here. There is a saying “you are not dead if your name is still spoken” and Jon Glencross’s name will live on.
