Joseph Coupal Obituary

Joseph Romain Jean Marie Coupal
"Romeo" "JOE"

December 8, 1938 - November 24th 2024 (Age 85)

"Treat people the way you want to be treated - R.C!"

Always dressed up and smiling, he will be very missed by the lives he touched. He had a love for antiques and cars, he loved to wear jewelry and was usually seen with his cowboy hat and cowboy boots. He could be found dressed in a suit playing blackjack at the Casino Regina in his younger years. He loved to dance and was very outgoing, always striking up a compliment and meeting new people. He loved music and in his younger years we remember him listening to it with the volume up loud dancing in the living room , some of his favorite's were listening to The Gambler by Kenny Rogers, Louisiana Saturday Night by Mel McDaniel, & Loretta Lynn .

He always spoke of the years in Anchorage Alaska working on drilling rigs and working on the farm in Saskatchewan, the pulp mill when he moved to Vancouver Island and started a life there.

He was predeceased by life partner Rita Lillian Ironstar, who he missed very much. They travelled all over the states together, buying and selling classic cars from Barret Jackson's Car Show and restoring them at their home in Port Alberni together with sons Elliott "Charlie Prettyshield & Alain Ironstar and daughter Dominique Coupal. Together with their sons they built a cedar shake company which many homes along Vancouver Island used. His daughter Angela Sibbald & son Brian Coupal also survive him along with many grandchildren, whom he loved very much.

He was born on the farm in Montmartre, Saskatchewan on Dec.8th 1938 he was the youngest of eleven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sister Denise Kirkpatrick of Qualicum BC and Marcie Gaw of Vancouver Island and brother Larry Coupal of Florida.

He moved back to Saskatchewan to retire and lived many years there and some of the locals in Montmartre 'Paris of the Prairies' remember his demeanor as kind with a wild side. After Rita passed away, and his health started to decline he moved to the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia where his daughter Dominique and family cared for him until he was in the care of St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt, British Columbia and he passed away peacefully there in the early morning on November 25th,2024.

Our sincere thanks to the compassionate staff at St. Mary's Hospital & Vancouver Coastal Health, we appreciate you.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
