Judith Hayward Obituary

Judith 'Judi' Ellen Hayward passed away suddenly at the age of 74 at home in Gibsons, B.C. Judi was a loving aunt to her niece, Jaymie, and a source of strength and delight to her adoring sister, Laurie. Well loved by all her friends and especially cared for by Gardia and Chris, and Jean and Norma during her challenge with serious medical issues in recent years.

Judi blended the magic of science and art throughout her life. As a young woman she lived and worked all across Canada and travelled extensively throughout Asia and Australia. These adventures opened her eyes and heart to the world, as did touring with her friend Gar on their motorcycles.

As a doctor at Pine Street Clinic in Vancouver, where she practiced for decades, she was passionately involved in ensuring that all patients were treated with knowledge, compassion and advocacy through the lens of social justice, regardless of race, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or addiction and mental health challenges.

She was also a skilled artisan, having finagled her way into the Ontario College of Art and Design, where she created exquisite blown and stained glass work. She wrote eloquently and played classical guitar. As a later adventure, she started farming in Roberts Creek raising chickens and sheep which later evolved into Five Winds Farm with Canadian horses, dogs, cats, and chickens.

Riding her tractor and mending fences was her joy, especially as it involved lots and lots and lots of tools and equipment, many vehicles, and her beloved animals.

Judi was very accomplished in everything she undertook, but the most constant and remarkable aspect of her life was her gentle loving kindness toward her family and friends, old and new, and every person whose path she crossed in the IGA, Home Hardware, Seasoned Kitchen, Wheatberries, Jean's Organics, Quality Farm. and the many shops on The Sunshine Coast that she visited. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and the community she helped build.

Judi's presence will be sorely missed and deeply felt, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
