Katherine (Katie) Nora Clegg

It is with great sadness that we announce Katie’s passing in her home in Halfmoon Bay, BC.

Born in Westminster Hospital, London, UK, Katie made for a very welcomed Christmas present to Mike Clegg and Nessa O’Donnell.

From the get-go, she was a very good baby sleeping through the night from 8 weeks of age! From early on, it was obvious that she was very musical. Through her years, she played several musical instruments and had a beautiful alto voice which was great for the bluesy numbers she liked to sing.

Katie was talented in languages and, in addition to English, she was fully fluent in – and loved to speak – Gaelic and French, as well as speaking some Spanish and a few words of Afrikaans (thrown in for good measure)!

Katie earned her Bachelor of International Commerce with a double major in French and Accounting from the National University of Ireland in 2011.

Other passions of Katie’s included skiing and cooking. The steeper the piste, the better! She was a real foodie and loved discovering new ingredients and recipes. In following her passion for food, she chose to do her Master of Science in Culinary Innovation & Food Product Development at the Dublin Institute of Technology and graduated in 2014.

Katie was very sensitive, generous and caring. She always stood up for the underdog, those who she felt were being bullied and those less fortunate than her. She was also great fun to be with and loved a good joke or two.

She left Ireland in 2015 for Canada – and for an adventure! Within a few weeks of arriving, she had met the love of her life, her husband Lance David Ross, then later added their Cockapoo, Madra, to their family and the rest is history!

Katie will be sorely missed by us all on each side of the pond including her sister Ciara Carty. Life’s precious moments never die, memories live forever – and Katie created so many wonderful memories with everyone to sustain us over the years. Her light will never extinguish.

Two Celebrations of Life will be held in late Spring – one in Halfmoon Bay, BC followed by one in Ventry, Ireland. Details to follow. Donations can be made to BC SPCA Sunshine Coast Branch.
