Kristian Sturla Stendal Melby

Kristian Sturla Stendal Melby, 78, of Sechelt, BC, passed away on October 13, 2023 in Gibsons, BC. Born on June 7, 1945, in Fauske, Norway, Kristian was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Kristian had a vibrant personality and was known for his sense of humour, genuine nature, and amiable disposition. He had a positive outlook on life and could always be counted on to bring a smile to those around him. With his quick wit and sincere demeanour, Kristian made lasting connections with everyone he met.

In his career, Kristian began as a disc jockey in radio, working at various stations across western Canada. He was a natural people person and later pursued sales in radio advertising, life insurance, car sales, and pre-planned funeral sales. Kristian also had an entrepreneurial spirit, which led him to explore different ventures throughout his life.

Outside of work, Kristian enjoyed several hobbies. He was an avid golfer, music enthusiast, and an avid reader. He also had a passion for paddling and was actively involved in the Nordlandslaget Norwegian Lodge, Lions Club of Surrey, and the Freemasons.

Kristian is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne Melby, as well as his former wife Joan Baird and their children Eric [Shelley] and Kristine, and his cherished grandchild, Kristian. He is also survived by his siblings, Jens Vidar Stendal [Astrid] of Fauske, Norway, and Rolf Melby [Linda] of Osoyoos, BC. Kristian had a special bond with his best friends, Roger Charest [Linda], and Joe Morrall [Valerie].

Kristian was preceded in death by his mother, Inga Melby, his father, Kristian Ingemar Stendal, his step-father, Monrad Melby, and his sibling, Unni Andresen. Their memories will forever be treasured by those who loved them.
