“I want to be a canoe that slips into the water when the first stars come out.”
And so her poetic soul left for the the greater beyond.
Linda Anne Henderson was originally born on August 15, 1951 in Vancouver. Growing up in
Castlegar and North Vancouver with her siblings Laura and Scott, she eventually became a
brilliant student at UBC who completed her Master’s Degree in English and Creative Writing,
edited the university’s literary journal and pursued her first career as a certified and innovative
ESL teacher.
Throughout her work life she continued to write poetry, plays and stories while being
thoroughly appreciative of the amusing and dramatic aspects fo life. A born storyteller, she
could engage in a small group or quietly ponder and revise her writing. For a time, she was
even a world traveller visiting Egypt, India and her favourite destination, Turkey.
Eventually, she became a sought after elite educator helping high school students, on a one to
one basis, to carefully craft their essays and to guide some in the creation of their portfolios to
enter various universities, including Oxford and Cornell.
Her good heart led her to become active in Amnesty International, writing letters for prisoners
of conscience and visiting inmates. She also touched her academic students by editing their
Master’s and Doctoral theses. Being the great - grandchild of a judge, through her spunk and
legalistic mind, she could write legalistic letters of rebuke to university officials and lawyers
who warranted them.
In her last years until her retirement, “Anne” as she was affectionately called, happily lived in
Sechelt creating gardens on her property with Mark, with many future designs and garden
pathways in mind. Anne Henderson died December 18, 2025 in Sechelt and is survived by her
partner Mark Johnson and siblings Laura Hodge and Scott Henderson. She will be dearly
missed.
