Lorne Udy Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we share that Lorne passed away early Sunday morning at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver. He was surrounded by family when he passed after having a stroke. He is deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Becky, his daughters Lynn (Jay) and Jessica (Christian), grandchildren Oliver, Adelaide and William, and sister Marion (Andy) and family.
After raising their daughters in South Surrey, Lorne and Becky retired to Madeira Park. Early days on the coast were spent boating, whether it was harbour tours with visiting friends, family outings or early morning prawning. Soon Lorne's interest in cars took over and time on the water became time spent in his shop working on his cars. He loved to make the part he needed, not necessarily make it easy on himself and simply buy the part. The boat was then replaced by a small, but growing collection of hot rods. He joined the Coasters Car Club and thoroughly enjoyed the friendships that grew from that association, especially with rod runs and car shows shared with the local Harbour car guys.
Lorne officially retired in 2007 after working as a mechanical design draftsman at TRIUMF/UBC. He was a man of many talents, as those in the community very well know. He could always be counted on as the "go to" person when there was a problem, whether it was to do with a classic car, a boat, a computer or any number of technical issues. His shop and back yard were the places where you could find just the stuff you needed to make a repair. Of course, Lorne's role as grandpa to Oliver, Addie and Will only added to the joy he found in supporting those he loved.
But Lorne was more than a technical expert. What this community will miss more than anything will be the way he was always there for anyone in need. He never asked to help; he was just there for friends and families and anyone who needed him. His sense of humour, his handiness and his helpfulness will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Lorne's life is planned to be held at the Madeira Park Legion sometime in October. In lieu of flowers, Lorne's family has requested donations be made to the Pender Harbour Health Centre.
