DIANE FOLEY
Diane Foley (nee Male) August 5, 1938 – August 28, 2023
Born in Cardiff, Wales, Diane moved to Canada with her family when she was 17 years old. She spent her last 20 years on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in BC.
Diane was an extraordinary woman, a free spirit who loved exploring the road less travelled. “Life is short”, she said. “Eat the chocolates! Make the most of every mile. Jump off the diving board. Embrace adventure.”
She loved to travel, absorb herself in new cultures, explore local haunts, and most importantly, make friends. Over time, she nurtured deep friendships with people around the world, including her niece, Sandy, nephew, Lance, and sister-in-law Carol (and their families), who live in Australia.
Diane successfully managed her own business for 11 years in Vancouver, BC - The Switchboard - an answering service with an eclectic and delightful group of staff, and an infamous and often used hangover couch. It was the good old days in Vancouver with afternoon and afterwork drinks at Murphy’s Pub, themed dance parties, and regular visits to Nick’s Spaghetti House. She also worked as a radio operator, a barmaid, a layout artist, and a writer.
Diane wrote and published OFF THE TRACKS, a novel about her time running a halfway house for men living with addiction. She also co-wrote, DARLA’S LAST KICK AT THE CAN, with her dear friend Sharyl. This work, along with everything else she did was layered in humour. She found laughter as a magic remedy for dealing with problems.
Diane leaves behind her sons Guy and David (Arlene), daughter Kelly (Andrew), grandchildren, Liam, Kaden, Kayla and Daniel, and many dear friends who she loved deeply.
