Margaret Atlee Obituary

Margaret Alexandra Elaine Atlee
June 18, 1935 – February 16, 2026

Margaret was born in Montreal, Quebec, and raised in Kerrisdale, Vancouver. She spent every summer on the Sunshine Coast at her family’s cottage on Franklin Road, swimming and enjoying the community she came to love. It was there, as a teenager, that she met her future husband, John.

Margaret became a teacher, working in Surrey and Gibsons, and was part of the original Jack and Jill Preschool. After she and John married, they settled on John’s Franklin Road property, where they lived out their lives together. When she passed, she was the last original resident on the street.

She loved her home deeply and was often seen tending her garden or walking through the neighbourhood. She loved to sew and made children pajamas to donate to charity. She befriended many, especially the neighborhood children who stopped to talk with her and the cats who came to visit. Some will remember her walking her big orange cat Skeezie around the yard—he was a very patient companion.

Margaret believed in hard work, simple food, and having a purpose. She remained independent right to the end.

She is survived by her children, David Atlee (Christine) and Dawne Stevens (Bob); her grandson Shane (Brittany); and her step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
