Margaret Anne (Buckingham) Smith

January 4, 1923 ~ December 23, 2021 (age 98)

A true Golden Girl who’s forever in our hearts, we lovingly remember Margaret Smith. Charming and gracious, she fancied herself shy yet was the warmest, most charismatic woman to know.

Margaret Anne Smith (nee Buckingham) passed away peacefully on December 23, 2021 at the age of 98 years - (12 days shy of her 99th birthday). Predeceased by her devoted husband Henry John (Harry Smith) “SMITTY”.

Predeceased by brothers John and George, she is survived by her daughter Patricia (Glen, deceased), son John (Lynn), 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren - all of whom adored her and to them she was known as G.G.

Margaret loved her family and friends, her volunteer work, and was the light in every room she entered. She touched so many lives, especially those in the town of Gibsons where she settled with her husband Harry after the war in 1947. They quickly became active and valued members in the community throughout their 63 years together.

Never content idle, Margaret could always be counted on to help whenever and wherever she was needed. Whether volunteering at the hospital auxiliary (which she served for 57 years), selling raffle tickets at the mall or judging business window decorations during the Sea Cavalcade, her energy and joie de vivre were infectious.

She was a bonafide lady with a sense of style that radiated throughout her lifetime. We honour Margaret by living our lives to the fullest, inspired by her enduring spirit, her beauty, her love and her kindness.  We will celebrate her life with her family and friends in  the spring at son John's (Lynn) residence in Halfmoon Bay. Date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to TOTEM LODGE in Sechelt, where Mom was under their kind and comforting care.
