Margaret Thorne Obituary

“Love never dies; It lives on in all of those whom you touched with your love, kindness & generosity.”

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Thorne.
Margaret was born in Barbados on March 30,1932 to Neville & Nina Howell of Buttals St. George. She lived there with her siblings Geoff and Janet and went to Codrington High School. At 17, she went to England to study nursing at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford University UK. Later she met & subsequently, married Trevor Thorne of Sandy Lane, St James.  They had 2 children, Monica & Marilyn and in 1969, emigrated to Canada.

They started in Don Mills, Ontario and then to Georgetown, where they happily spent the next 25 years. In 1994, Margaret  & Trevor moved to Sechelt, BC. They built their dream home overlooking the Trail Islands and were very happy there in the wonderful neighbourhood of Chartwell, where they shared love, laughter, music & wine with family, friends and neighbours alike.

Sadly, she lost Trevor in 2010 and began the final chapters of her life. She moved to the waterfront in Sechelt where she could still see her cherished view of the ocean.  Sadly, as her health declined she moved to Christenson village in 2021 where she passed away peacefully on February 10th with her beloved daughter by her side. At last she is free to float into the arms of her beloved Trev and dance among the stars together, forever.

Margaret will be greatly missed by her daughter Marilyn & husband Rod; Daughter Monica; Granddaughter Jenna & husband Jared & great grandson Max; Granddaughter Lana & partner Ryan; Grand dogs Kizzy, Gipsey & Pirate; Brother, Geoff and sister, Janet and their families in Barbados and overseas along a with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and wonderful friends who became family by association.

She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, cheeky wit, ‘Mar’isms’ and fondness for a little ‘tipple’ of wine.
