Maria Mahar (nee Marshall)

Maria Mahar, 92, passed away on September 30, 2023, in Sechelt, BC. 

Maria was born in Channel, Newfoundland to Lavinia Marshall (Simms) and John R Marshall on September 19, 1931 and worked as a telephone operator. She met Ralph Mahar on the ferry from Halifax to Newfoundland and was married shortly after, in Port-Aux Basques, Newfoundland. They moved to Ontario then to North Vancouver, BC and finally to Halfmoon Bay, BC in 1974 and purchased the B&J Store, where they had a butcher shop and a post office. Maria loved meeting all the customers and had a huge soft spot for cats. 

Maria is predeceased by her parents John and Lavinia Marshall, brothers and sisters Genavive Marshall, Gord Marshall, Winnie Butt and Albert Marshall and husband Ralph Mahar. 

Maria is survived by sons; Jim (Lori) and Bob (Irma), Grandchildren; Theresa, Angela (Keith), Robert, Ryan (Nikki), Shawn and Thea, Sister in-law Linda Quinn, Brother in-laws Paul and Lyle Simpson and many nieces and nephews. 

The family of Maria wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Totem and Shorncliffe for their lovely care over the years. 

A family service will be held later. If desired, you may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary.
