Maureen Bentley Obituary

Maureen P.R. Bentley
March 1, 1938- September 5, 2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Maureen (Mo) Bentley (nee Rowsell). Born on Bell Island, Newfoundland on March 1, 1938, she left us on September 5, 2020 at Christensen Village in Gibsons, BC. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Susie, her sisters Georgie (Larry) Martin of Gibsons, and Norma (Bryan) Dawson of Amarillo, Texas.

Surviving her, Brother Ralph (Nicole) Rowsell of Burlington, Ontario, loving husband Roy Bentley, her only daughter Marie Bentley (James Wells), her son John Bentley of Gibsons, BC. Her sons in Newfoundland, Jack (Brenda) Lee, Brian (Kim) Lee, Ralph (Gloria) Lee, Pat (Pam) Lee, and their brother Bobby Lee. Grandchildren Herb Craig (Lauren) of Gibsons, Christy Craig (Travis) of Sechelt, Braydon Bathgate and Bryson Bentley of Gibsons, Michelle, Michael, Mark, Jessica, Jordan, Elizabeth, Curtis, Nicolle, Jonathon, Ashley, and Tara all of Newfoundland. Great Grandchildren Cameron Cawsey of Sechelt, Alexis Baker and Hunter Daley of Newfoundland as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family here in Canada and the US.

It's been difficult to put her life into a few words as she was a woman with so much to talk about. She had been an apartment manager until her retirement and could always be found with a broom in the parking lot or a vacuum in the hallway. She loved helping people, cooking, a good party and of course "her bingo." Often noted for being a "Muxin" always in the know, her door was always open for a place to stay, a meal, cup of tea, or a loaf of her homemade bread. She was the "Other Mom" and "Nanny Mo" to many children over the years, "The Queen" to her bingo friends, and she had a special bond with the Jackson family of the Sechelt Nation. Mom's last 3 years were spent at Christensen Village with the staff allowing her the privilege to have "her chair" at the entrance and a room with a view of the parking lot to watch the daily comings and goings. She is finally at peace from her struggle with Dementia and has been reunited with her sisters in Heaven. She will be missed and not forgotten here on Earth.

We would like to thank Dr. Carla Paetkau and her ENTIRE care team at the Village for all the love and support. We are truly grateful beyond words.

Due to COVID-19 there is no service until it is safe for all to gather.
