It is with heavy hearts that we write about the passing of Murray Bruce Garrett Smith back in March of 2023. Murray is predeceased by his parents John and Dorothy Smith. Survived by his children, Nicholas, Rebecca (Jeremy) and Zachary, his brother Norman and sisters Rosalind and Marjorie, the mother of his children Barbara (Buddy), cousins, and many lifelong friends, notably his long time friend Dan McCauley or "Hoop" as he called him. We want to say a special thank you to neighbours Kimberley and Jeremy Patterson and Katie Duncan for their help and compassion over the years, as well as Dr. Murphy for his years of support and care, all whom Murray was very fond of. Murray moved to the Sunshine Coast with his family in 1997 and from there he took his interest in home improvements and proceeded with a career in Carpentry, working on many accomplished projects on the Coast such as The Heritage Playhouse, "the Langdale mansion" and many others for TNL Construction with Jim Greatbanks. Murray grew up in Kitsilano as an avid athlete playing for the Meraloma football team for years, as well as spending time playing Hockey, Baseball and Golf. He was also a talented artist and passed down his love of art, music, acting and storytelling to his children. His kind soul, sensitive spirit and impeccable wit will live on forever in the family, friends and community he had, as he will be forever missed.
A celebration of life will be held at The Meraloma Clubhouse at 2390 West 10th in Kitsilano on Sunday April 7th from 2-5pm.
