Pete Wilson Obituary

On May 5, surrounded by family and friends, Pete took his last breathes. He fought hard to live longer with a very aggressive cancer but it beat him. He wanted all to know he lived a full life.

At age 17 Pete quit school, falsified his age and spent the next 24 years serving in the Canadian navy. Along the way he visited 22 countries and served 2 NATO tours. Serving on a total of 6 ships, Pete voyaged through the Panama cannel twice, hitchhiked through Paris to Portugal, and navigated all but the Indian and southern oceans. In 1986 Pete left the Navy and started working for BC Ferries in Swartz Bay, soon after in 1989 transferring to “A” watch in Langdale.

Early in his adult life, Pete married, adopted and became Dad to a young Sherry and Harold , soon after his son Kevin was born.  Pete met his soul mate Sue in 1984.

On Aug 3, 1991, what was suppose to be a birthday surprise to Sue, they married in Gibsons BC. In 2005 they were to care for and raise two more sons, Dalton and Shawn.

Predeceased by both parents, Donald and Doris, and father in law Donn, Pete leaves behind his wife and best friend of 40 years Sue. A sister Peggy, his sons and daughter, Harold, Sherry, doppelgänger Kevin, Dalton (Nicole) and Shawn (Rinoa). As well as grand daughter Tanya and great grandchildren Jaala and Jaaden. Brother/sister in laws, Sheldon, Karen, Darlene, Cathy, Steve, nieces and nephews, Dayle (Mik), Brett (Niallan) Maddison, Rachael, Nathanael and Jessica. Special mention, thank you’s and much appreciated partners in crime and holders of so many memories, Dean & Robin Martin and family.  As well as mother in law Rose, (who always said Pete was her favorite son in law). Many friends and extended family, too many to mention. Pete wanted all to know he is okay and Montreal Canadiens and Miami Dolphins will win next year!!

Pete loved his home, its amazing view from the window, skiing, reading, exploring history, cooking and spending time with his in laws and family.

He will be missed very much for his made up expressions and “peteisms”, his Ahab the Arab song routine and the famous oochy goochy stories that entertained the family during campfire nights.

A Service will be held June 15, 1-3 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #109 Gibsons.

In lieu of flowers please donate in Pete’s name to our unsung hero’s and amazing, Palliative Care team at Vancouver Coastal Health.
