Piet Kos Obituary

Piet was known for his young heart, creativeness and adventuresome nature.

He was born in Giessendam the Netherlands in 1951 to Ina and Pieter Kos. Piet attended high school in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan before embarking on his University career. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from the University of Saskatoon, a Teaching Degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, a Fine Arts Degree (he completed a four-year program in three years) at Emily Carr College of Fine Arts, and finally a Law Degree from the University of British Columbia.

Piet began his career teaching around the world from New Zealand, Japan and then back in British Columbia. While back in BC, he chose to pursue his  passion for painting. He spent many years painting various works of art including large canvases and paintings. He especially enjoyed creating unique greeting cards for his loved ones. His cards were artistic and literary treasures and always a joy to receive.

He moved to Winnipeg for several years in the late 90’s to be closer to his mother. While in Winnipeg he was employed by Westons Bakery. It didn’t take long before he felt a calling for the west coast and in 2004, he moved back to Sechelt, BC, with his beloved feline companion. He semi- retired in Sechelt and continued creating art while doing odd jobs for townsfolk. His art projects were always great conversation starters and enjoyed by many. Piet will always be remembered for his warm smile and sense of humour.

Piet was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brother William (Maria Victoria), his nephew Rob (Andrea), niece Kim (Les), great nephews, great nieces and one great great nephew.

In keeping with Piet’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.
