Rick (Twiggy) was a loving partner to Trish and father to Karen McGee and Bill Wray and grandfather to Miranda and Dillon McGee. He leaves behind his loving aunt Marion O’Toole, his brothers in law Brian Moore, Dennis Berry and Rick Deschesnes. His sisters in law Liz Berry, Jean Berry and Linda Doerksen, his sister Mary Chester Webster and many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends. Pre-deceased by his parents Len and Bea Wray, his brother Harold and his sister Chris Moore.
Rick was born at Vancouver General hospital on July 2, 1947 two months pre-mature which meant he spent the first three months of his life in the hospital. His pioneering family lived on Bear Lake (now renamed Mixal) and in the Garden Bay and Pender Harbour area. His first education was in a one room school at Irvings Landing.
His family moved to Gibsons where he lived except for his time in the military. In 1965 he joined the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders and served part time for three years. He then served with the regular force in Germany in 1967. By 1968 Rick had joined the airforce and was stationed in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia and training in communications. He was honorably discharged March 5, 1970. After the military he trained to become a plumber. Over his years Rick was a community builder and avid volunteer. A member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Gibsons Yacht Club and a Life Member of the Gibsons Kinsmen club which by coincidence was where he met Trish, while volunteering to finish her house.
Together they built a second home in Gower Point and a summer residence on Savary Island. He adored his children and grandchildren and they adored him. He worked with the Mulligan crew off and on for nearly thirty years, Gibsons Building supply for ten and Gibsons Fasteners. He found his dream job at Port Mellon, working casual on the loading dock which allowed him to take time off and travel or go to Savary making memories with his family. He loved to travel and to tell a joke.
Please join the family in celebrating his life on Saturday April 18th, 2026 at the Gibsons Legion. Celebration to start at 11:30am with a gathering to follow. All are welcome!
