It is with great sadness we announce Robert Ronald Andrew passed away on March 23, 2021 at Vancouver General Hospital at age 81. His beloved wife and daughters were with him at the time of his passing.
Robert was born on July 11, 1939 in Lethbridge Alberta to parents Thomas and Margaret (Field) Andrew. After graduating high school he moved west to study English at UBC and he also traveled to San Miguel Allende, Mexico for some courses.
Bob held many positions as a reporter, writer and editor throughout Alberta, BC and the Yukon. Pursuing his love of carpentry he took a heritage restoration program on the North Shore. Although he retired at 65 he never stopped working on the family home, a 1913 Craftsman house in East Vancouver, which he took great pride in.
After a cycling accident left him with a broken pelvis he found the traditional rehabilitation process monotonous. So he began hiking the Grouse Grind as his own fitness routine and continued hiking into 2021. Over the years he climbed the equivalent of Mt Everest several times.
His creativity spanned many disciplines, from writing and editing, to his meticulously detailed handcrafted wood work, and to his dedication playing the guitar. Everything Bob did he did with pride and the skill of a highly trained professional.
Robert leaves behind his loving wife, Karen; his daughters, Vairdy and Justine; his grandchildren, Odin and Torger; and his sisters, Elaine and Sharon as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
We are very heartbroken by his passing, yet we are so relieved he is no longer suffering and has found eternal peace. He spirit surrounds us in all the creative things we do and guides us every day. His kind and loving heart and his sweet sense of humour will live forever in our hearts.
Daddy (Bob) we miss you and will never forget you. The family asks that donations be made in memory of Robert to The Vancouver
Food Bank.
