Robert (Bob) White Obituary

It is with broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Robert (Bob) White. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Leslie, his two sons, Ryan (Holly) and Paul (Robyn), his two grandchildren, William and Michael, and his older brothers Doug, Ron and Ray (Carol).

Bob was well known on the coast, especially in Roberts Creek. At the age of 12 his father gave him a chainsaw and he built the first sauna on Whitaker Beach (Bonniebrook Beach). With that chainsaw and without further training, his father had him clear a nearby lot of alder. He not only survived, but this was the first sign of his natal bush sense.

He started building forestry bridges and gradually his skills took him all over the country and even the world. He also managed a covert job in Indonesia deep into the jungle. He built a 200 foot bridge across a raging river that was occasioned by head hunters.

He was very well respected by his crews and his clients. When he said he would do something, it was done. He managed his crews with positive energy and they loved working for him.
He had many good friends and was known as a good listener. When he did speak, he sounded like a well heeled therapist rather than a rough and tumble man that spent much time in the bush. It was not hard to like a man who was universally kind to everyone he met.

Surprisingly for some, Bob undertook spiritual quests and followed the lives of exceptional people with great interest. He walked on hot coals with his sons at a workshop, hiked with medicine people through the desert at Four Corners and Inca Shamans in the mountains of Peru.

On the other side, he was a follower of Warren Buffett and many other financial gurus. Trying to understand how to grow spiritually in a material world. He wanted to know what motivates humans to excel and how does quantum physics help us understand life. All this and more combined to form the compassionate and tolerant man that was Bob.

His ashes were spread in the ocean on Whitaker Beach on April 23rd by his family after an honoring ceremony. A toast of tequila (Bob's favorite drink) was made to his life and the man he was.

Even an apparently flawless diamond has weaknesses and as we stare at the shards of memories left by a man no longer with us, it behooves us to embrace our own life as we remember him.
