Son of David and Marietta Meredith. Steve was a brother to Pat and James and brother-in-law to Patrice. Steve was born in Toronto and grew up in Don Mills. He excelled at sports, especially hockey and dabbled in education. Steve spent his summers in Georgian Bay on Ship Island and Rocky Beach; swimming, water skiing, paddling and captaining his seaflea.
He enjoyed fishing, chopping wood and the camping lifestyle. Steve left Ontario in 1991 and moved out west living in Vancouver, Port Moody, Roberts Creek, Gibsons, Wilson Creek, Davis Bay and Sechelt. "Bonniebrook Steve" always had a twinkle in his eye and made friend easily, although he was a private and reserved man. When sober, Steve was a polite, kind and caring soul who loved to help others but often times his demons took control and he was troublesome and unpredictable.
Steve's love of nature led him to work in the tree industry and he met many good friends who taught him alot about the trade. Later on these skills were used to help neighbours and the community with many tree and garden projects. You could usually find Steve on the beach, he travelled with a knapsack on his back full of garden tools in case he found a hedge which needed attention. Steve was very opinionated and was not the easiest to get along with: he did not hold back his point of view on any subject.
Steve's high sense of fashion and keen thrifting skills shone brightly through his extensive wardrobe and fabulous outfits he regularly wore. The Eddie Bauer jackets had lots of pockets for his cigs and his contigo mugs of coffee and beer. Steve remained a bachelor and had no children. His chosen family included friends and colleagues - especially the folks at the Arrowhead Clubhouse, A.A. Groups and his Green Court neighbours. Steve's lifestyle allowed him to live exactly as he wished. His ground floor bachelor pad door was open to friends and those who stopped by for a chat and to admire his collection of unique art, tools, stones, books, driftwood and the general curio emporium in which he lived.
Many thanks and gratitude to all of Steve's friends and neighbours for their support and to the Coastal Health teams in Sechelt.
