Thomas Hall McConkey

Thomas Hall McConkey, brother, husband, father and friend, passed away on Feb 7, 2023 at the hospital in Sechelt, BC.  Tom was born to Patricia Helen (nee Winterbon) and Thomas Hall McConkey Sr on September 8, 1936 in Cannington, Ontario.  He was the oldest of 4 children, brothers Skip and Bob and his sister Lila.  Tom married Catherine Lorraine Murphy in December of 1959.  Tom and Lorraine had four children: Thomas, Michelle, Timothy, and Patricia.

Tom and Lorraine moved the family to Sharbot Lake in 1966, where Tom quickly became a well-known and respected man teaching at Sharbot Lake High School. He also ran a multitude of other businesses over the years. He retired from teaching in 1980 and purchased a lumber business which was a major employer in the area. Tom was known by everyone in Sharbot Lake as an intelligent, savvy businessman who was generous to all. 

Tom and Lorraine lived a beautiful but complicated love story.  After 26 years of marriage they decided to separate and divorce.  Yet Tom was always there to support Lorraine, and throughout the years that followed they remained good friends.  After 31 years apart Tom and Lorraine found their way back to each other and decided to live together on the stunning BC coast in Sechelt.

Tom is survived by his wife Lorraine, his four children, and his sister Lila.  Tom’s grandchildren include Morgan, Keenan, Ana, Benjamin, Gabrielle, Dylan, Shelby, Jade, and great grandchildren Mickey and Murphy.
