Thomas Lew Ray, 81, of Sechelt, BC passed away January 11, 2021. He passed peacefully with his beloved wife Helen at his side.
He is survived by wife Helen, children Angela Turner, Mark (Katherine) Ray, Michael Ray, John (Monsa) Ray, Christina Ray and Susan Swift. He was charmed by his grandchildren; Craig, Miranda, Jordan, Alejandro, Tommy, Sophie, Talana and Zack, and great-grandchildren Jared, Lilly, Jack, Hayden, Carys and Onyx.
Tom was predeceased by his brother Garrett Ray and is survived by his sister Genevieve Ray of York, Pennsylvania and sister-in-law Nina Ray of Littleton, Colorado.
Married for 61 years; Tom and Helen were the light and love of each other's lives. With adventurous spirits they immigrated in 1969 from Colorado to Northern BC with their six children. Tom enjoyed building and fixing things (he could fix anything!), singing, playing guitar and listening to folk music. He also loved to read and was passionate about literacy, language, poetry and song. He loved being outdoors in wide open spaces.
Tom worked at what was St. Mary's Hospital for many years and volunteered at Sechelt Public Library. Some of his happiest hours were spent on their sailboat "Downwind," sailing up and down Georgia Strait, Desolation Sound, and the San Juan Islands. Tom and Helen travelled to many fun destinations in their later years, continuing their adventures.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice and Gardenview units at Shorncliffe Care Home for their excellent care and compassionate support.
We invite you to join us in remembering Tom when you are gathering with family and friends, preparing and savouring great food, reading a good book, singing together, listening to music or enjoying the great outdoors. In these ways Tom's love, appreciation, unfailing politeness, thoughtful reflection, sense of adventure and generous hearty laugh will live on and continue to enrich the lives of us all.
